THING 6 - DIFFERENTIATION

Part 1 - The following are things I already do in my teaching which meet the elements of differentiated instruction:
  • Use flexible grouping of students and frequent regrouping
  • Use of discussion which engages all learners, use of demonstrations, and having information written out on the white board. Also, the use of posters and pictures to show proper form for some skills.
  • Students are actively engaged and challenged. They set individual goals for improvement on things like the Pacer fitness test.
  • Reinforce key concepts
  • Vary tasks instead of giving my students a single drill to work on.
  • Give students choices in equipment and space. For example, students may choose a shorter badminton racket with an oversized head to help them with hand/eye coordination. Students may move up closer when serving in volleyball or shooting in basketball, to help them learn the skill and be more successful at the same time.
