The Fifth Thing
I like recommendations whether they are for a good movie or a good book. So, it is nice to have a list of recommended blogs. I found a lot of blogs that I am interested in simply by doing a search for "physical education". Many of the sites I already had bookmarked as favorites. It was easy to add them to my Google Reader. I do wonder if I will get consumed with checking all the latest updates. I do like to stay up-to-date on things. I hope it truly is a time saver and that I don't end up wasting too much time checking for all the updates. I think I got a little carried away and added over 30 sites!

The Fourth Thing
I really like RSS and newsreaders! This is a great way to save time while checking out my favorite web sites. It is so convenient and easy to use. I can use this at school to find new ideas and ways to teach our curriculum. I can use this in my personal life to save time while checking out my favorite sites. Educators can use RSS to stay up-to-date on the latest things that are happening in their field. I am a big believer that there is no status quo in education. If you are not staying abreast on what is going on in your field, or in education in general, then you are falling behind. RSS is a great way to stay current and save time, too.

The Third Thing
7 1/2 Habits of a Lifelong Learner
The hardest habit for me is "using technology" and the easiest habit for me is to "PLAY!"
Using technology is the hardest because I have very little training in technology. When I was in school, we didn't have computers or any of the technology that we use today. Many of us "older" teachers have had very little training. Most of what I know has been on-the-job training. Using technology does not come naturally to me, like it does for kids today. On the other hand, play comes very naturally for me. My career as a physical education teacher involves teaching my students how to play a variety of activities. It is my hope they will find activities that they really enjoy, and, therefore, will participate in them for a lifetime (such as golf, tennis, etc.). Personally, I love to play! I enjoy playing all sorts of games, whether it's a board game, a card game, a word game, or an individual or team sport. Play is cathartic and a wonderful way to get away from it all! I highly recommend it!

The Second Thing
What makes a good blog? A good blog must be appealing to it's readers. It should contain interesting and useful information. It should also be entertaining and humorous. A good blog should be active. If the blogger doesn't post often enough, then people will eventually quit reading their blog. A good blog should also provide links when it's appropriate and useful to do so.
How could blogs enhance the existing school web site? Blogs can enhance the existing site by sharing news and current events immediately and in a variety of ways. They can also encourage comments and make communication a two-way street.
Are blogs an easier way for people to self-publish? Blogs are definitely an easier way for people to self-publish. The popularity of Facebook and MySpace demonstrates the desire people have to network and share about their lives. Blogging is a simple way for people to document their work, their interests, their family, and anything else that they would like to share with their audience.
My initial thoughts about the Read/Write Web are that all teachers need to implement technology into their classrooms in order to reach the students that we are teaching.

23 Things - The First Thing
I am hoping to learn how to enhance my students' learning through the use of a blog. I think it is an excellent way to communicate to my students, their parents, and other members of our school community. I also think it is a great tool for teachers in the field of physical education to learn from one another.
